Salkantay Sweater Junior - English

Construction:
The sweater is knitted from the top down. Stitches are cast on for the back piece, which is knitted flat, while doing increases. Stitches are then picked up along the cast on seam, for the left and then the right shoulder. The two shoulder pieces are joined to form the front piece, which is then joined with the back piece to create the body. The body is worked in the round and finished with a double rib. Stitches are picked up along the edge of the neckline and worked in double rib, folded down and knitted into place. Finally, stitches are picked up along the armholes and the sleeves are worked in the round, with decreases at the underside and finished with double rib.

Jacquard pattern:
The sweater has a south american inspired pattern on the body and the sleeves. This pattern is different, depending on which size you are knitting:
The pattern for sizes 9-10 years and 10-12 years has both “stars” and “diamonds”.
The pattern for sizes 6-7 years, 7-8 years, 8-9 years and 12-14 years only has “stars”, in order for the pattern to add up across the entire round.

Size guide:
The sweater can be knitted in 6 different sizes: 6-7 (7-8) 8-9 (9-10) 10-12 (12-14) years. The circumference of the sweater for each size is 82 (82) 82 (91) 91 (100) cm.
We recommend adding a positive ease of 15-20 cm to the measurement of the child. The length of the body and sleeves can be adjusted to fit the child.

Length:
43.5 (44) 45 (47) 48 (49) cm at the center of the back.

Gauge:
22 stitches x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch.

Needles:
3.5 and 4 mm circular needles with 40 and 80 cm wire.

Yarn suggestion:
Filcolana Pernilla (50 g = 175 m) and Filcolana Tilia (25 g = 210 m)

Amounts:
Base color: 200 (200) 200 (250) 250 (250) g Pernilla and 75 (75) 75 (75-100) 75-100 (100) g Tilia.
Contrast color: 50 (50) 50 (50) 50 (100) g Pernilla and 25 (25) 25 (25) 25 (25) g Tilia.
